When a patient first comes into our program, they will go through a thorough evaluation to assess function in every area. Next, the patient and family will meet with the treatment team to set both short-term and long-term goals. Rehabilitation may begin the day the patient arrives our program.
A typical day involves three hours of rehabilitation spread out over the entire day and can include physical, speech, occupational, and/or recreational therapies, either individually or in groups. Snacks and meals are provided. We focus on helping patients resume a productive life and to become as independent as possible.
Families are encouraged to become involved as early as possible with the rehabilitation process. Family members are taught how to provide assistance to support the patient during the hospital stay and after he or she returns home. The ARC team also helps plan for the patient’s return to the community, finding appropriate resources to help continue the progress that has been made.
