A local fitness facility is offering free use of its gym and group fitness classes this week.

HealthWorks, 3542 N. Western Ave., offers cardio and weight machines as well as free weights; group fitness classes.

Personal training and massages are offered by appointment and for an additional fee. Martial Arts classes are available

Members pay month to month; there are no contracts. We also allow members to “freeze” their membership should they have to take time off for vacations, etc.

Staff will be available to show people how to use the equipment, and to take blood pressures

Group fitness classes include total conditioning, kickboxing, dance jam, step, step and sculpt, spinning (indoor cycling), bootcamp, zumba, zumba light, yoga and Silver Sneakers.

All classes are taught by certified group fitness instructors. Most classes are 45 minutes to an hour long.

“Teaching group fitness classes is definitely one of my passions. I love seeing the smiles come across my participants’ faces when their favorite song comes on my playlist or when they have completed the class and given it their all. I also love ‘thinking outside the box’ so to speak to come up with new options and modifications to create challenges and/or motivate my participants to work even harder,” Tara Madden, ACE certified group fitness instructor, said.

Improved cardiovascular health, lowered blood pressure, stronger bones, improved posture, stability, balance, and coordination, better rest, more energy, overall improved quality of life, are some benefits of exercise, Madden said.

Some people are able to go off certain medications and manage their disease through exercise, she said. They also experience better mental health and improved attitude, and weight control.
