Job Summary

The Phlebotomist performs routine invasive and non-invasive procedures on individuals throughout the life span. The Phlebotomist receives visitors and patients into the department and answers routine questions regarding hospital and departmental procedures and laboratory protocol. He/She retrieves information from files as requested and performs routine order entry tests into laboratory information system.


  • Education
    • High School diploma or equivalent, required
    • At least one (1) year of experience
    • Medical assistant or phlebotomy certification, preferred
  • Training and Experience
    • CPR required

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assist in orientation and training of other Team Members
  • Perform additional duties as may be assigned by supervisors
  • Use downtime to assist with clerk duties
  • Maintain supplies for the phlebotomy department
  • Clean and maintain phlebotomy draw areas and trays
  • Perform necessary preparation and proper labeling of the specimens for laboratory testing
  • Handle order entry and other clerical duties involved with performing phlebotomy and associate procedures
  • Performs phlebotomy and associated procedures on the patients who have tests ordered by any of the hospital physicians
